Ulun Danu Temple - Temple on the Lake Beratan

The Ulun Danu Temple, or commonly called as the Lake Beratan temple, with it's function as a Dang Kahyangan, which means the temple that used by Hindu community to respecting the sense gratitude for the fertility or prosperities, that has been blessed by the God.

In this case over to worship of God Siwa (Goddess Uma),that gives blessing of fertility to the water which used for life and especially the agriculture of Subak (Water Irrigation) Organization in the Regency of Tabanan. Word contains in the meaning of Ulundanu temple is deriving from word of Ulun (Ulu means; Head / Central, and Danu (Danau) means; Lake.

So the fitting name of Ulundanu is the temple that becomes central source of water (Source of Life / Prosperity).The other functions of this Lake Temple is also used by Hindu Balinese to do the Purifications Ceremony.And the Ulundanu Temple is precisely located in the Village of Candi Kuning, Baturity Districts, Tabanan Regency, about 50Km from Denpasar City towards Singaraja City direction.

According to the history of this UlunDanu Lake Temple was build in the year of 1556 Caka / 1634 AD, which has a strong connections of Taman Ayun Royal Temple, that built by the King of Mengwi with his named is I Gusti Agung Putu. Ulundanu Temple is a symbolic the glorification meeting in between the Mountain and the Lake (Siwa and Uma / Parwati),

or the embodiment symbol of a Lingga and Lake (Identical to the sea) as Yoni, in essence is the symbol of LinggaYoni itself, or symbol the essential Prosperity of Live.
Until now this Ulundanu Lake Temple is very well known to be visited by Locals / Domestics or foreigners, also it has a fresh to cool weather.
